    Designer Beeombi Debuted His Avant-Garde Collection at The Bomb Fashion Show

    If anyone’s turning it up a notch in the fashion industry, it’s Derron Cherry with his avant-garde brand entitled ‘Beeombi.’ The St. Louis native has accelerated to the top of his game with his cutting edge designs that have graced celebrities including Teyana Taylor, Nia Long, Oprah, and Porsha Williams.

    Cherry, whose designs are quite a sight to behold, came from a lineage of seamstresses as his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother all knew how to sew. He recalls using a sewing machine at the shy age of 5, and going to work with his mom where he would watch her sew. “By the time I got to middle school, I was repurposing garments, and by high school, I was making full on gowns,” explained Cherry, who goes by his nickname ‘Beeōmbi.’

    The name of his brand originated from his family giving him the nickname, ‘Beeōmbi’ due to his inability to say ‘bologna’ when he was three years old. “I would ask for ‘Beeōmbi’ instead of ‘bologna,’ and that was the nickname they gave me,” said Cherry. “When I got to the 7th grade, I can remember wanting to make clothes and give that name life.”

    Beeōmbi has definitely created a name for himself, especially in the film and TV sphere where he is a true powerhouse. After attending the Chicago International Academy of Design and Technology for three years, he returned to St. Louis, and received an opportunity to become a tailor on the set of ‘Selma’ alongside Ruth E. Carter, and Ava Duvernay.

    That opportunity shifted Beeōmbi’s career to Costume Design for film & TV, and he has been working with film extraordinaire Tyler Perry for the past decade. “I have made many of Tyler Perry’s ‘Madea’ dresses and hats, and designed for many of his productions such as ‘Sistahs’ and ‘Perimeter.’ on the BET network.”

    In addition to serving as a catalyst behind the scenes for a variety of films, Beeōmbi is also focused on the expansion of his clothing line which was showcased in Neiman Marcus earlier this year. Comparable to Balmain and Alexander McQueen, Beeōmbi has excellent attention to details. Despite womenswear having many soft and feminine elements, Beeōmbi enjoys adding an androgynous touch to his garments.

    During the Bomb Fashion Show, he will debut his latest collection called “Welcome to the Jungle” that was inspired by his trip to Africa. “ I’m going to give you an array of things including designs made from leather, silk and wool. I have some really bomb leather pieces in my RTW collection, and I will also have evening and haute couture pieces.”

    He shared his excitement about being in New York Fashion Week with Fashion Bomb Daily.
    “It’s so amazing to be a part of the Bomb Fashion show as I have followed Fashion Bomb Daily for years, and it’s the go-to for everything and everyone,” expressed Beeōmbi. “I think you guys do great journalism, and I have followed Claire for so long and watched her grow as a brand, and person. She’s the bomb, and her team is the bomb, so I’m excited to participate in it.”

    Beeōmbi is looking forward to what is in store for his namesake brand. Along with working on different TV sets, and building his RTW collection, keep an eye peeled for a storefront coming to a city near you.

    Your phone is not a bomb.

    Yesterday, pagers used by Hezbollah operatives exploded simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria, killing at least a dozen people and injuring thousands. Today brought another mass detonation in Lebanon, this time involving walkie-talkies. The attacks are gruesome and shocking. An expert told the Associated Press that the pagers received a message that caused them to vibrate in a way that required someone to press buttons to stop it. That action appears to have triggered the explosion. At a funeral in Beirut, a loudspeaker reportedly called for people to turn off their phones, illustrating a fear that any device could actually be a bomb, including the one in your pocket.

    Electronics are a global business, and the events of the past two days in Lebanon have created an unexpected information fog of war. Virtually everyone uses personal electronic devices—phones, headphones, chargers, and even, in some cases, pagers. Those devices can, under certain circumstances, create risk. Gadgets catch on fire, get hacked so that remote intruders can spy on you, or get infected with malware that turns them into botnets. Might your smartphone just explode one morning as you’re reach for it on the nightstand? Almost surely not.

    According to the Associated Press, the attack was likely carried out by hiding very small quantities of highly explosive material in the pagers. In principle, intelligence operatives in Israel, which is widely believed to have conducted both attacks, could have done so by compromising the devices in the factory. But given that the exploding devices seem to have specifically targeted Hezbollah rather than everyone who owned a particular model of pager, the perpetrators more likely intercepted the gadgets after they left the factory. The resulting pager bombs were apparently procured by Hezbollah months ago. The pager bombs and radio bombs have since been waiting to be detonated remotely.

    You are unlikely to find that your iPhone, Kindle, or Beats headphones have been modified to include pentaerythritol tetranitrate or hexogen, the two compounds currently suspected to have been used in the Lebanon detonations. That’s not because such a thing can’t be done—as little as three grams of these materials can be highly explosive, and it would, in principle, be possible to cram that much into even the small cavities of a circuit-packed iPhone. In theory, someone could interfere with such a device, either during manufacture or afterward. But they would have to go to great effort to do so, especially at large scale. Of course, this same risk applies not just to gadgets but to any manufactured good.

    Other electronic devices have blown up without being rigged to be bombs. Yesterday, when news first broke of the pagers blowing up, some speculated that the batteries had triggered the explosion. That conclusion is partly caused by an increased awareness that lithium-ion batteries are at some risk of exploding or catching on fire. The model of pager targeted in Lebanon does in fact use lithium-ion cells for power. But the intensity and precision of the explosions seen in Beirut, which were strong enough to blow off victims’ hands, couldn’t result from a lithium-ion blast—which also couldn’t be triggered at will anyway. A lithium-ion battery could cause a smaller explosion if overheated or overcharged, but these batteries pose a greater risk of starting a fire than an explosion. They can do so when punctured so that the liquid inside, which is flammable, leaks and then ignites. That doesn’t mean your iPhone is at risk of exploding when you tap an Instagram notification. In the United States, low-quality batteries made by disreputable manufacturers and installed in low-cost devices—such as vape pens or e-bikes—pose a much greater risk than anything else.

    Accidental battery fires, even from poorly made parts, couldn’t be used to carry out a simultaneous explosive attack. But that doesn’t mean you don’t own devices that could put you at risk. Consider spyware and malware, a concern commonly directed at Chinese-made gadgets. If connected to the internet, a device can convey messages, send your personal information abroad, or, in theory, detonate on command if it were built (or retrofitted) to do so. It feels plausible enough to put the pieces together in a way that produces fear—exploding pagers in Beirut, wide ownership of personal electronics, lithium-ion fire risk, devices connected to unknown servers far away. Words such as spyware and malware evoke the James Bond–inspired idea that a hacker at a computer half a world away can press buttons quickly and cause anyone’s phone to blow up. But even after the astonishing attack carried out in Lebanon, such a scenario remains fiction, and not fact.

    And yet, it’s also the case that a new type of terror has been birthed by this attack. In Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East especially, citizens can now reasonably fear that ordinary devices might also be bombs. Depending on how the devices made their way to their new owners, it’s also possible that the bomb-gadgets have leaked into more general circulation. Two children have already died.

    In other words, the fear is grounded in enough fact to take root. Abroad, even here in the U.S., that same fear can be mustered, even if with much less justification. Fretting that your phone is actually a bomb feels new but really isn’t. The fear is caused by bombs, the things that explode. A pager or a phone can be made into a bomb, but so can anything else.

    Hollywood’s finest, Vivica A. Fox was the hostess with the mostest, taking attendees on a fashionable journey with her brilliant allure and mesmerizing whit.

    Fashion bombers and bombshells lined up outside of the venue in their sharpest attire at 6pm. As they made their way inside they were enamored by the architectural layout of the event.

    Sponsored by Jesseca Harris-Dupart’s Kaleidoscope Hair Company, and Atlanta-based beauty tech startup Myavana, there were various activations for guests to engage and interact with.

    Along with Kaleidoscope and Myavana, other sponsors at The Bomb Fashion Show included Slutty Vegan, The Waffle Chic, Luc Belaire, and HER Kreations.

    Since the show’s inception in 2021, The Bomb Fashion show has become a hot spot during New York Fashion week for celebrities and fashion mavens alike.

    America’s Next Top Model Eva Marcelle, and Mr. Jay Manuel were both in attendance, supporting emerging talent as they debuted their avant-garde collections.

    The first designer to open the show was none other than Beeombi, who has over a wealth of experience designing for television and film.

    The Kansas, Missouri native who has designed for celebrities like Tyler Perry, Teyana Taylor, and Porsha Williams showcased an all black collection that was progressive and innovative.

    Contrary to Beeombi’s monochromatic looks, designer Nikki Blaine Couture presented her ‘Green with Envy’ collection that was vastly different with vibrant hues, lace and cutouts.

    Self-taught designer Coryn Monet who founded Envysaje Atelier, let us know that she is a force to be reckoned with her stunning conceptualized looks.

    Monet, who recently returned from living in France, incorporated a lot of neutral and lighter tones in her line, inspired by Europe’s quiet luxury.

    Switching up the pace, and setting the tone for our future style stars was LAHA’s children wear by Lillian Tiner. The St. Louis, Missouri designer has tapped into a specialized niche, bring a modern twist to traditional children’s clothing.

    Also from St. Louis, Tiara Peach made a statement with her fashion fur line called, The Fur and Leather Centre. Featuring colorful mink coats characterized with luxe silk lining, her designs were impressive, and eye-catching.

    Love & Hip Hop star, Yandy Smith showed up to The Bomb Fashion Show to support her son lil Mendeecees who walked as a model for ‘The Fur and Leather Centre.’

    Sporting a western black and white cowhide hair matching set, lil Mendeecees looked effortlessly cool, and fresh to death.

    Another mother and son duo on the scene at the Bomb Fashion Show was the iconic Misa Hylton and her son Justin Combs. Hylton’s Fashion Academy debuted their bespoke garments on the runway that illuminated and oozed of individuality.

    Closing the show was rapper Madison Star who delivered a spectacular performance. Rocking an embellished mesh ensemble, she entertained attendees with her catchy lyrics and edgy flow.

    A special innovator with an inimitable light, Bespoke designer Waraire Boswell has passed away at 48, leaving behind a legacy of excellency in the fashion industry.

    Known for recreating the power suit and menswear for A-list celebrities and athletes like Jay-Z, Will Smith, Kanye West and LeBron James, Waraire was a transformative visionary, with an iconic history.

    Born on September 29th, 1975 in Altadena, California, Boswell (nicknamed “BOZ”) passed away on July 31, 2024 due to a “private battle.” However, he didn’t leave this earthly realm without sharing his marvelous artistry.

    In an Instagram post his family penned,

    “In the midst of his battle, Waraire never allowed the circumstances to deter his design mission of creating the perfect wardrobe for clients to feel their best in their best moments. “Creating the perfect suit is ironically similar to life,” Waraire would say. “Ironic because nothing in life is perfect, but similar because you can control how it fits you.”

    Prior to the onset of his career, the pioneering designer attended California State University, Northridge where he studied Radio and Television film. He would later go on to began his career at United Talent Agency and the William Morris Agency.

    In pursuits of looking as poised and polished as his fellow counterparts, but struggling to find suits that fit his 6’7 body frame, BOZ begin designing his own suits which quickly gained the attention and popularity of his peers, and entertainment executives.

    So much so that in 2002, the graceful giant created his namesake line the “WARAIRE BOSWELL” brand with custom, and ready-to-wear garments.

    He used his entrepreneurial spirit and unique sensibility to tap into a specialized market catering to professional athletes of his stature including NBA stars like the late Kobe Bryant, Tristian Thompson and Kevin Durant. From tailor suits to sportswear, he always strived to make an impact for his clients around the globe.

    His incredible attention to details and impeccable craftsmanship, gained him many accomplishments including being named the Mercedes Benz Classic designer of the year in 2005.

    BOZ was also the mastermind behind McDonald’s major uniform makeover in 2017, after the fast-food chain sought out for him to spruce up their North America employees outfits.

    In addition to partnering with companies like Nike, American Express, and Fear of God, Boswell’s work was also featured in major fashion publications such as Vogue, GQ, and Vanity Fair.

    Waraire Boswell always looked at the world from an artist point of view. He found beauty in everything, and wasn’t afraid to think outside of the box.

    Whether he used the finest spectrum of fabrics, or upcycled from a second hand store, BOZ used his innate knowledge and innovative techniques to perfectly design the functionality needs of each garment. His designs were monumental with immeasurable style and grace.

    Boswell has undoubtedly left his mark on the fashion industry at large, creating a clear blueprint for others to follow suit.

    He was one of one, a class act, a champion, who charted a new path and understood the power of his gifts. This was an unimaginable loss for many, and Wariare Boswell leaves behind a legacy of richness in mind, body and spirit.

    He is survived by his wife Monica Boswell, and their two children, Miles and Mason, his mother, Ann Boswell, and his sister, Kasmin Boswell.

    There was a new spark in the air at this year’s BET Awards. A re-emergence of energy that was not only felt but illustrated on Sunday’s blue carpet! Everything about the BET Awards 2024 red carpet rang true — It was BLACK, BOLD, and BEAUTIFUL. 

    Black Hollywood is known for it’s innate fashion versatility, so there’s no denying that ‘Culture’s Biggest Night’ set the tone for bold, vibrant, eccentric & flirty-fun fashions among the stars! 

    Highlighted among our favorite looks on this iconic night include Colman Domingo in a black metallic suit by Ferrari styled by Wayman & Micah. What we love most about this electrifying suit is the ombre to red at the foot giving it a pop of color on top of the sheen, smooth feel of the suit. Now this is the statement piece we can’t stop talking about! 

    Next, we have Victoria Monet in her electrifying blue era. At this point stylist Kollin Carter is unstoppable. He put his bombshell in a custom Samuel Lewis navy blue pierced leather gown, with silver accents ruched together in the front. As a bonus the bottom half of the dress comes off and turns into the perfect cocktail number!

    This was surely Victoria Monet’s ‘Cinderella Moment’ but make it edgy!! From owning the night in her one-of-one performances to snagging two BET Awards, Kollin overstood the assignment. To seal the deal this show-stopper was paired with Monet’s signature wet hair look. She is known for this aesthetic and we love it! 

    Tanner Adell, the country bell was true to her roots and this look was light and whimsical yet still bold. Styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn this buckle bunny wore a Bach Mai in a custom whimsical western piece! The Country genre is new to the BET awards and both she and Shaboozey ( in a Campillo suit styled by Anastasia Walker) set the tone and rightfully so as the first country artists to be recognized! We can only assume that an official category is on it’s way!

    Rapper, NLE CHOPPA traded in his signature rapper uniform for the evening for a very rocker-chic, sex-symbol look. The young heart throb wore a the See-Through Dsquared2 blouse with Mowalola Stone pants and Mason Margiela boots. This look was surely a wild card for viewers and what a better place to switch it up and show versatility than the BET Awards. Fans were initially shocked but he was definitely a fan favorite from the night!

    Tyla is quickly moving up the ranks to a fashion IT girl, especially after this year’s MET Gala look. This time she went into the archives in a 2004 Fall/Winter Versace ‘ready-to-wear’ runway number and if that wasn’t enough of a WOW factor this sexy leg-out, cut-out belly gown was set off with $230,000 worth of jewelry from Jared Atelier, per E! News. Now, is there anything more to say? We think NOT as Tyla continues to up the ante every time she hits the scene.

    Well in conclusion, the men dominated the carpet this year showing us why they are the cream of the crop. The most notable trend among these star-studded men was — CRÈME. Everyone from Usher to Cory Hardrict was spotted in crème de la creme. Ray J went on record saying, “You want to wear something white to preserve the heat. It’s all about keeping it chill and fly,” and his peers like singer, Vedo went on to cosign that same sentiment! Okay ladies, what say you about this summer trend?

    The legendary Celine Dion premiered her “I am: Celine Dion” documentary during a special New York screening at the Alice Tully Hall this month, and the Canadian singer received a standing ovation.

    Dion, who is one of the best voices of our time, and has faced challenges after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, bared it all, taking attendees on a thought-provoking journey of her life.

    The theater filled up quickly, with eager fans singing along to some of Celine’s wonderful hits like “I’m Alive” and “My Heart Will Go On” as they awaited for her documentary to debut.

    The Director and Producer of the film, Irene Taylor walked on the stage, and shared her incredible experience working alongside Dion, in order to effectively depict her story.

    When Celine surprised attendees and walked on the stage, the crowd went bananas, in awe of sharing space with an icon. Lavern Cox and Gayle King were among the many celebrities in attendance at the premiere.

    Following Taylor and Dion’s introduction to the documentary, fans and media outlets were immersed in the film that begins with Celine talking about her struggles with her rare health condition.

    From talking about how her chronic neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness has interfered with her vocal ability, to sharing family time with her sons, and walking us through her childhood, she was raw and unapologetic.

    Celine, who comes from a large family of 13 brothers and sisters, shared some of the tribulations that her family endured. She recalled her mother being the backbone of the household, and always doing her best to ensure that they lacked nothing despite not always having the means.

    She shared moments of her love life with her late husband René Angélil who passed in 2016, and you could see through Celine’s eyes that she still deeply heartbroken by the loss.

    Although the documentary had heavy moments that were quite emotional, it had many light moments too. Dion, who is a true fashionista at heart, walked attendees through her fashion warehouse that included renowned designers and one-of-a-kind pieces.

    Her eye for fashion and love for shoes is evident as she humorously mentioned,

    “When a girl loves her shoes, she always makes them fit. I have worn shoes my friend, where my toes were like this (crawled up), because they didn’t have my size,” said Dion. “Every time I went to a store and I love those shoes they would say what size are you ma’am? I‘d say no you don’t understanding, what size do you have? I will make them work, I will make them fit, I will walk the shoe, the shoe doesn’t walk me.”

    She is a FIGHTER, who is relentless, and the epitome of someone who will never give up- and for that WE LOVE HER!

    “I do this as a couture brand,” expressed Bloch. “Couture is really made-to-order for the person, so I design my collection with not a person in mind, but rather ‘the person’ in mind.

    Phillip is able to turn an ordinary cashmere sweater into something extraordinary by sourcing vintage fabrics and remnants from around the country. When it comes to the embellishments, think beads, sequins, feathers and 3D embroidered flowers perfectly placed on each sweater.

    I go in and let’s say I buy a cape, I can usually get four or five sweaters out of that,” explained Bloch. “Each fabric has it’s on group and even if you can’t get a certain style there are always alternatives within that group.

    The sweaters, which retail for $700-$2,250 have drawn the attention of many celebrities including Vivica Fox, Kim Cattrall, Holly Robinson Peete, Angela Bassett and Fran Drescher.

    For Phillip’s Spring 2024 collection, he has introduced vibrant and fresh hues that are right on trend for the season.

    From pinks and Fushia’s to yellows and creams, Bloch’s line offers an assortment of styles including V-neck sweaters and cardigans for versatility. What we love and admire most about ‘Omniscient Things’ is the exclusivity and specialty of each garment.

    Whether you opt for a peak-a-boo design in the back or would like your cashmere sweater to have accent shoulders, the creativity is unlimited. “I think one of the great things about what I’m doing is that there’s nobody at this level,” said Bloch. “All my sweaters are lined with silk organza.”

    In addition to ‘Omniscient Things‘ couture collection, Phillip Bloch also founded “God Stuff,” which is the parent company of his cashmere line and will offer T-shirts and sweatshirts on his website.

    “We are all given so many gifts, and it’s weeding through the weeds to figure out what your real gifts are, and what you can do with them, expressed Bloch. ” If you’re faithful, the answer will come I believe.”
