The White Lotus season four rumors have been white-hot lately. The hit HBO Max show’s creator, Mike White, has landed in France to host the murder mystery anthology’s comically out-of-touch guests, per a new report from Deadline. While neither HBO nor White (who also serves as writer and director of the series) have confirmed the speculation, France, with its rich cultural history, idyllic landscapes, and a flair for all things luxury and the art of living well, seems an apt locale to set the next iteration of a series that’s centered around the leisurely proclivities of wealthy Americans.
Previous seasons have taken viewers to the picturesque shores of Hawaii, through the streets of Sicily on the back of a moped, and into the lush jungles of Thailand. If that coastal pattern holds, season four could fit in nicely along the glistening French Riviera. In an episode of the show’s official podcast, White said that he would like the season to be a heady send-up of the art, fame, and film worlds—mentioning a particularly iconic film festival that would make one of the legendary hotels in Cannes or nearby Antibes strong possibilities, considering the melange of auteur filmmakers and high-profile who typically attend. The streamer has checked into Four Seasons properties for its past three seasons, so it seems likely that the next hotel will also be set at one of the luxury hospitality chain’s venues. While a few spots under the glitzy hotel chain’s umbrella are definitely on our radar, we’re throwing a handful of others in the mix too as we dream up our ideal venues for the next installment of the buzzy comedy-drama.
Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc
Balanced on the cliffs on the tip of Antibes, the palatial Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, or Hôtel du Cap, as it is often called, is simply one of the finest hotels in the world. It is a perennial favorite for actors, artists, designers, politicians, and celebrities, especially during the festival in nearby Cannes, as it offers a refuge from the chaos on the Croisette. It also hosts the illustrious amfAR Gala that takes place each year during the festival, giving it a one-two punch of association with major cultural events that reach across high-brow filmmaking and glitzy celebrity culture. Entries into its glamorous guest book include the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, the Kennedy family, Marlene Dietrich, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Marc Chagall. Part of the Oetker Hotels, it is not a Four Seasons property, but with its lofty status and the recently debuted Villa La Guettière—a nine-bedroom private villa on the property—the space could allow for easy filming away from the main hotel, a Napoleon III chateau.
